Lutherwood Bible Camp :: Lake Samish, WA
Lutherwood operates primarily as a not-for-profit bible camp with peak activity in the summer, but they have recently delved into the arena of outdoor recreation. Not only have they offered outdoor activities & education for their camp participants (including ropes & challenge courses), they have begun hosting rowing races, trail runs, triathlons, and now for the first time, cyclocross!
This will be an exciting second run of a venue with huge potential. Plenty of alternate loops, including lots of singletrack, and extensive facilities such as lodging, camping, & food all suggest we spend the entire weekend here! And we will be.
Registration, BBQ, coffee service in the yellow building with some of our tracks from last year (as seen from the flyover):
How nice! This guy's out putting in barriers into the run-up for us! Note also the Lakeview Lodge in the background (available for rent some years).
PRE-REGISTRATION: Is now open on BikeReg
If you do not pre-register but want to download & print the waiver, it is here.
BBQ: Lutherwood will be hosting a barbecue from 11:30am to 1:00pm. You can pay a bargain of $5 at Registration to get your lunch ticket, or they will collect in the Meal Hall. Chili, burgers & brats, pulled pork sandwiches, and more!
ON-SITE REGISTRATION: is indoors this year! Complete with a fireplace, coffee, tea… so cozy! Same place as the BBQ.
COSTUMES: Zombies, Christmas characters, ugly sweaters, ornaments & lights!
Camping and cabin sharing are available for Friday and Saturday night. We will be sitting around a big fire on Saturday and riding trail on Sunday, so don't plan on taking off after your race! We've got hot showers!
You can book a cabin via the Lutherwood facility rentals for your group of friends or team (just Friday or two nights optional). The Lakeview Lodge sleeps up to 13. The camp cabins sleep 20 and there are 5 total (you don't need to fill them). These are basic units with bunk beds, so bring bedding or a sleeping bag.
There will also be camping for $30 per campsite with RV hookups available!
GUIDED TRAIL RIDES:
On Sunday, the Kulshan Cycling Ambassadors will be guiding you into the Chuckanut and Blanchard mountains for some of the most scenic trail riding around! Long climbs with long, technical descents - plan on bringing a second bike! Stay tuned for more details.
FOOD: See BBQ above. The nearest other facilities would be the town of Alger along Hwy 99, which is mainly the Alger Bar and a little market, or the Shell station at the I-5 on-ramp up the hill (north) from Lake Samish. Otherwise, it's back to Bellingham, down south to Burlington, or my favorite, amble on over to Edison! You've never seen a town quite like it. Two great bakeries, art studios, and quality seafood & bevvies at the Longhorn Saloon or Edison Inn!
PARKING: Somewhat limited due to the course layout. Note the ONE-WAY vehicle access loop in orange (will be course-marshalled at caution signs). Car-pooling recommended! You can also park at the Lake Samish County Park swimming area & ride over (<1 mile) or at one of the I-5 Lake Samish exits and shuttle in with another racer.
