Hilly Cross

Squalicum Park topo

Folks, this is the piece of land that inspired me to be a cyclocross promoter. Amazing terrain features, a giant staircase, wide open views of the entire course, grass/gravel/mud, and smack dab in the middle of Bellingham. No, not Cornwall Park. It's Squalicum!

This is an old light industrial site, formerly an airport (Graham's Field), a gravel pit for Pacific Concrete, and a plant nursery for the Parks Dept. Most recently, it became Bellingham's newest city park and contains a brand new baseball field. In the future, it will contain several more.

At the moment, it is the raddest hard cyclocross course you have never ridden! It may not be here for much longer (in the current form), so get it while you can!

Squalicum Creek Park :: Bellingham, WA

Brought to you by Recycled Cycles Racing on Nov 21, 2009

UPDATE: This race has been awarded the status of NWCCC qualifier for collegiate cyclocross nationals. The winner of both the A Men and A Women collegiate category will earn a call up at CX Nationals in Bend, OR on Dec 13th.

This particular Saturday happens to be the day before the Seattle Cyclocross Series appears in its furthest north locale, the Northern State Mental Hospital grounds in Sedro Wooley. Those in the know recognize this as our Wooley Cross course from last year!

So let's just call this weekend a Fourth Corner Double Header! If you need help with host housing in Bellingham to reduce trips, please .

Squalicum Park

DIRECTIONS from I-5: You can zoom out on the Google map below to get a general idea of location. From I-5 traveling either direction, take the Guide Meridian exit, #256 (256A from the South). Turn south on Meridian, away from the madness of the Bellis Fair Mall zoo. You should very quickly see the Bellingham Country Club on your right.

The next stoplight is Birchwood Ave. Cross over some tracks and take the next right on Squalicum Parkway (our final location is on your left here, Cornwall Park).

Drive about a mile down this pretty road. The park entrance will be on your right through a yellow gate, just opposite West St. (the only road on the left). If you hit Bellingham Bay (Squalicum Harbor), you drove too far.
