Bellingham BMX Track :: Bellingham, WA
Prelim Round 1 - 2:00pm*
Prelim Round 2 - 3:00pm
Consolation Round - 4:00pm
Final Round - 5:00pm
$10 goes to the help with the costs of building & improving this permanent course! The more we raise, the more features can be added over time (think lights).
No series points, no categories, no official results. Team up with a friend, preferably in a way that balances your ability levels. Are you typically hanging with the A Men? Pair with a beginner woman. Midpack B racer? You can race with another C or B. Self-seed and self-sort. If you don't have a partner, we will find you one at the race! Approx. 45 minute races, should be 2-3 laps per team member.
We will fill up reasonable-sized fields for Prelim Rounds One & Two based on when people arrive. Some number of top teams will transfer to the Final round. If they opt out, another team will be brought forward to the Final. We can also do a consolation race by request.
Bring refreshments, hang out, get your heart rate up and chat with friends in between. Help us beat in the track. Dial in your new race equipment. Tell the class what you did for fun last summer.
Below is a Strava-recorded test lap ride on a singlespeed on a fairly muddy day by an average rider (Cat 3 35+ male):
Bellingham BMX is at 5022 Guide Meridian (map) just north of Kelly Road and south of Smith Road. Look for a long chain link fence and white buildings painted with orange trim. It is across the road from a "Gifts & Things" store with flags & banners out front.
The Guide Meridian is a highway, but the shoulder near the venue is wide & safe. Not so much in the zone near I-5 and the Bellis Fair Mall all the way to Walmart, so here are some alternate bike commute routes to the track via backroads & trails. These are relatively quiet & safe routes, one on roads with good bike lanes and/or light traffic, and one on a mix of urban trails & dirt roads on a pretty mountain (a.k.a. a cyclocross warmup).
You can watch or experience top-notch BMX racing right inside the same venue this Saturday. With USA BMX, everyone gets a one-day free membership to try out the sport. There's even a strider race on a special track for the kiddos! Sign-ups are 10am to 11am with a couple hours of racing to follow.
*When the BMX racing wraps up, we'll reset the track for the cyclocross prologue. Why not try both!
